Once you have ore, you need to turn it into ingots so you can your their reagents. Smelting will often produce gases. This occurs in either the Arc Furnace (for simple recipes) and the Furance for more complicated Alloys, and finally the Advanced_Furnace for very complicated Superalloys. For the complex alloys, you will need to achieve mixtures at perfect ratios, Temperature, and Pressure.
